1922 Winter Park News

  • Construction of the Orlando-Winter Park Highway, 17-92, is completed, connecting the two cities.

  • Town doctor R.F. Hotard is authorized to vaccinate the town for smallpox.

  • The Alabama Hotel (1922-1979) opens with 80 rooms facing Lake Maitland. The luxury hotel attracts winter visitors for the season. Today the building operates as an upscale condominium, but the original 1920s hotel façade remains.

  • The Winter Park Garden Club is established.

  • At Rollins, tuition increases to $450 a year. In a football game with the University of Havana, Rollins wins by a score of 80 to 0!
