The Art of Produce

Photo Credit: Jeanine Taylor Folk Art

Florida folk artist Ruby C. Williams (1928-2022) spent her life growing and selling an assortment of fruits and vegetables. Her farmstand was in front of her home on Rt. 60 near Plant City.

She may have raised great produce, but it was her colorful, whimsical art that made Ruby famous.

Initially she painted produce on rough, wooden boards to attract business and later began to sell both produce and art to her customers. The art world became interested in Ruby’s distinctive folk style and today her art is held in private collections and art museums worldwide.

Stop by Hello Sunshine! Selling Florida Through the Art of Postcards to see several of her pieces on display at the WPHM!

The Ruby C. Williams pieces are on loan from the CJ Williams Collection, Winter Park. Our great thanks to Mr. Williams for his bright addition to the exhibition.
